BEEN THERE - DONE THAT!

Back from San Diego having walked every mile!!! No blisters, no scrapes, sore calves and a bit tired! My team was wonderful! Especially loved meeting Sheryl with whom I walked the whole way all three days. I could not have done it without her support!!! She was a first time walker as well. I raised about $11,500 so far. The San Diego walk raised $9.8 million. 75% of that will stay in the San Diego area and the rest will go to Komen. There were about 3800 walkers! This is the first time that I ever set a physical goal for myself, trained and achieved it. I am still feeling glorious about it. After Turkey Day I'll post more details of the experience! I'd like to thank every one of you for your financial and moral support!!! Although my team captain is already talking to me about next year - I can assure you that this was once in a lifetime for me!!!

Day Two COMPLETE!!!

Mom just called. She got back to camp about 30 minutes ago.

She walked every step of the way today. She sounds tired, but in great spirits.

She said that the tent has enough space for one person, and she is very much looking forward to the hotel tomorrow night! :)

Her teammates are great and they are finishing in the first 600-800 people of the 3500 walkers so they are doing great.

Thanks for all the love and support!

Day One COMPLETE!!!

Mom just called. She sounds GREAT!!! She had the best time, loves her teammates and walked EVERY step of the 20.1 miles.

When she called, some lovely young ladies were setting up her tent.

She was very thankful that CA is 2 hours behind us, so 4:30 felt like 6:30 to her.

She will call with another update tomorrow!

Mom and I both send our love and thanks for all the good thoughts, vibes and prayers we know are going out to her today, tomorrow and Sunday.

Safe and Sound

Mom is safe and sound in San Diego. She sounds in really good spirits and excited. She met one of her teammates on the plane. She is going to settle in and have dinner.

I know we are all so proud of her, and I will post updates as I get them!

I told Mom, just in case you want to know, that none of us care whether she completes this or not. We can't prove if she walked or not. All Dad and I want (and I know you do too) is that she gets the sense of fulfillment and pride in herself that we all got when we watched her take cancer head on and kick its butt!

More as soon as I know anything!

IT'S THIS WEEK!!!

Well all the training is over and the walk is this week. I leave on Thursday and catch up with my team in San Diego. We're having dinner together and then spending the night in a hotel. Friday morning we'll get up around 4:30 am (ok so that's 6:30 body clock time for me), eat breakfast, grab our gear and head for the opening! Then it's 20.1 miles on Friday, 19.1 miles on Saturday and 14.3 on Sunday. Yes for you math-types that's a total of 53.5 miles but who's counting! I did 5 miles of hills on Saturday so I figure that that will be a total of 58.5 miles in a week!!! On Sunday several of my team mates and I will be staying together at a hotel - in the hot tub with some wine!- before we all head home. I'll be back at home around 6:30 pm on Monday. I am accumulating all my gear and will be packing over the next two days. Thanks to everyone who contributed - I have raised almost $11,000. Remember that Leigh will post here during the event and I'll contact everyone when I'm back home!

19 days away!

Last week I did my walking in DC. I walked a total of 33 miles. Of course I while walking I was able to see all the monuments, memorials, as well as the changing of the guard at Arlington Cemetary. While at Arlington I visited the graves of both John and Robert Kennedy. As you know, President Kennedy's grave site has the enternal flame. Jackie Kennedy, their infant daughter, and their son Patrick are also buried there. Robert Kennedy's grave is off the side and there is only a single white cross and a brass plate with his name that marks it. I stood there thinking how lonely it seemed. Most people walked by it without even a glance. It once again made me grateful for all the people in my life.
