Walked in Padre

This weekend Phil and I were on South Padre Island. The first day I walked on the beach. It's surprising how much more difficult it was to walk on the sand. I also forgot to take enough water with me so for the last hour I had no water. Lesson learned! The second day I walked up Padre Blvd so water and bathrooms were available. See I do learn! The weather was hot but there was a breeze so it wasn't too bad. I did get alot of sun but even though I got pretty red it turned brown. I'm getting a nice tan for the first time in my life! This week I will be doing back-to-back long walks on Wednesday and Thursday. I walk pretty much every day but Sunday. We're having a little break in the heat here this week. Tomorrow I might even get in a few steps in the rain. While watching football this weekend I saw that it was in the upper 90's in San Diego. What is up with that? It better be back in the 70's in November - I mean I chose San Diego for its weather! We're about 9 weeks from the walk. I'm doing pretty well fundraising and maybe I will even reach my goal! Thanks to everyone who has contributed!

Happy Birthday to ME!!!

Today I turn 60!
It's raining here so I did my first wet walk. It wasn't too bad except I learned very quickly to walk as far away from the curb as possible. Of course had to get splashed twice before I figured that one out - I'm a slow learner I guess! But we need the rain so I'm not complaining - well maybe only a little! Leigh and Michael are here and some other friends are joining us for dinner. Cannot believe that the walk which seemed so far away is now only ten weeks away!

Walked in Philly

This past weekend Phil and I were in Philadelphia at a conference. The weather was absolutely wonderful and I was able to get in two great walks. I also got alot of praise for what I am training for and picked up a couple of donors I hope. I had two interesting experiences. On my Friday walk I was approached by a homeless guy and asked for money while he was on a cellphone. When I stared at the phone he said "hey lady it's prepaid!" Well duh - with the money he begs from people no doubt! Those of you who walk (or jog or run or bike - although I have no personal knowledge of those endeavors) know that as you pass people walking toward you, you generally nod or say hello or smile. On my Saturday walk a man was walking toward me on South Street and when he was about two feet in front of me he said "You know, if you throw a chicken out into the street it's a $10 fine and if you are disgruntled and don't pick it up it's $20 more." So as we passed each other I smiled and said "Good to know." Each of us continued on our way. So if you're ever in Philly, don't throw a chicken in the street or if you do, be nice and pick it up.
